Algeria calls on AU countries to develop plans in support of disabled persons



ALGIERS- Algeria, through Minister of National Solidarity, Family and Women's Affairs Mounia Meslem, called Wednesday African Union member countries to develop plans to assist people with special needs allowing them to achieve a successful social integration.

Speaking at a workshop discussing the Protocol on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Africa, on the occasion of the second session of AU special technical committee specialized on social development, labour and employment, to open Wednesday in Algiers, Meslem said the African Union committee meeting "will be held on proposal of South Africa, represented by Deputy Minister for Development, Bogopane-Zulu Henrietta.



The workshop was meant to define programmes to be developed in favour of people with special needs and adopt measures in support of such category of people to help them in their social integration.
Meslem presented, at the meeting, Algeria's experience in the field.
Algeria, Muslim said, has ratified the UN convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
It also set rules and took measures to assist and protect the persons with disabilities.
